I would like to share a few pictures of the building of Discovery 861 speakers.
The cabinet is made from 21 mm birch plywood, the front panel is made from MDF boards glued from different thicknesses.
The plywood was sprayed with transparent paint, the front MDF panel was sprayed with very dark grey metallic car paint, which I had specially mixed.

I finished the speakers just before Christmas 2023, but I wanted to wait with my final feedback until upgrading my entire system what was much needed.
Honestly, I was a little bit disappointed about the sound at the beginning, but it was not any lack of speakers as my little story explains...

I upgraded my old amplifier Onkyo to Abrahamsen V2.0 UP version, which is almost the same as Electrocompaniet ECI-1 / ECI-2, upgraded converter is RME ADI-2 DAC FS.
The sound was improved significantly after changing the amplifier, and even more after changing the DAC.
I even acoustically modified my listening room, I added a few carpets and also added DIY diffusers to the walls, even to the ceiling.
It was a very positive improvement of room acoustics, there is almost no reverb in the room and sound was much better.

BUT, the biggest positive change happened after my second upgrade of the amplifier, now I have a tube integrated amplifier - Primaluna EVO 200.
It's really hard to describe the sound, but I must definitely say that I am very satisfied with the sound.
What I was looking for was mainly sound fidelity, the sound must be as close as possible to the "reality".
There is such a big difference between my tube amplifier and all other transistors amplifiers which I heard.
I finally enjoy listening to the music, I even listen to genres that I hardly listened to before. The color of the bass of the D861 is incredibly delicious, deep and fast, smooth and punchy in one. I knocked out my 12" subwoofer, which I used with my previous speakers.
The subwoofer had a massive punch, but together with D861 clearly destroyed the whole bass. He played only a few songs and left quickly!
Also midrange and highs of the D861 are outstanding, voices sound very naturally and pleasantly. There is a very good sound stage with details.
I suppose that the Discovery 861 is the most valuable part in my whole chain, I expect that no speaker upgrade will be needed for a long time.
