Ah yes, I see now why I ran out.
With me making the sides curved there is no room on the rear panel to
fit them so they are on the sides at the bottom.
Whilst emailing you both I’ll add a lot of thanks for answering my
questions quickly.
I built a pair of power amps based on maplins kits some 35 years ago and
during Covid got my turntable (a Michell Syncro) from the loft and got
back into hifi.
I’ve always wanted though to build my own speakers and started looking
around. Came across your website and was hooked at the lengths you’ve
gone to and the detail you provide as to why stuff works and how they
should be built.
I still wasn’t sure which design to go for until my wife saw the Ekta
Grandes with the curved sides and said ‘yes, build those’
For us it’s so much money and was a bit of a leap of faith that it would
all work. Cabinet wise it was a fairly simple process for me to make
them but I’ve never built crossovers before and the sheer size and cost
of the components was mind boggling but everything worked out in the end
and they are now sat where they need to be.
The sound though is breathtaking, we’ve both sat for the last couple of
days listening to album after album looking at each other with our
mouths open. I’ve never had goose bumps ( or hairs on the back of my
neck) on so many occasions listening to music. The bass is solid, the
vocals through the mid range is the bit that I’ve noticed the most on
many recordings.
You’ve done a fantastic job designing these and wanted you to know that
we are so so happy with them. They really are amazing. As my wife said
‘how can £60k speakers sound better than that’
In the next few weeks I’ve got to laminate and get them sprayed up and
then I’ll send some better photos.
Once again very genuine thanks
Guy
