Hello Troels
Below my impression and pictures of the Faital 3wc 10. Feel Free to use it; also fine if you decide not to.
Thanks for your help and the design.
Kind regards kees

In the past I have owned magnepans (1.5) but otherwise always diy loudspeakers, mostly standmounts. I made a Troels design last year being the seas w15cy001 /hiquphon ow1 which initiated again a mild addiction to build more.

I decided for the Faital 3wc 10 because I wanted some speakers that were able to play real bass. However, space, especially width, is not too large in our living room so speakers could not be too large. From the description of Troels and other builders I thought the Faital 3wc10 would fit the bill, also because I am not an experienced wood worker and they did not seem too complex.

The kit from Jantzen was perfectly packed and delivered. Kudos to them also.
I decided for a double panel construction because of the rebates on front and back (if i would do it again i would probably just use 1 thicker panel). Outside layer (except front) is from 9 mm maple reinforced plywood which has a very nice exterior maple layer but has somewhat lower density (and probably strength) than birch plywood. I glued this to a 12 mm Baltic birch plywood ending up with 21 mm total. Front is from 9 mm black hdf glued to 12 mm birch ply wood. Around the woofer another plate of 15 mm plywood was glued ending up with some 36 mm there. The internal braces where made from leftovers from 9mm black hdf glued to 12 mm birch plywood. When hand building speakers with a saw table, router and some glue and clamps you suddenly realise that building a straight cabinet is not that easy but takes somebody ‘skilled in the art of woodworking’ which i am not. We are too accustomed to cheap but still perfecly straight furniture from IKEA and alikes. Still with some time (more than some actually) and patience the cabinet turned out very nice (not only to my opinion).
Crossovers were easy to assemble using the same tinning material as Troels uses (level 1, scan speak silk dome).
Initially the sound was not that special: the speaker units really need some time to burn in. Although my space is tight in width (3.2 m wilde) they play very nice. I had to place them as far as possible from each other to get the best sound (despite the speakers now being close to the side walls). They are about 1.3 m from the back wall. I changed the ECC83 tube in my Croft integrated amplifier because this gave me the best sound (i sometimes tube roll with various nos tubes to get a different flavour again).
Tonality, transparancy and spaciousness including depth (!) are all very good and far exceed my previous diy speakers. Height is pretty ok but strongly depends on recording and for me this is not the stand out point of this speaker. You get a very nice big picture with very good depth but there is pin point imaging is also not the stand out of this speaker (at least in in my situation). To be noted is that I need some room treatment. Luckily the bass (resonance) does not over power the room.  Surprisingly, with the standmounts (incurrently own 2 different types) the bass resonance in my room was more troublesome (don’t know why). Also, with the standmounts distortion kicks in at considerable lower volume: these speakers are not bothered by it (at least not the volumes i like to listen too).
Percussion, voices, cymbals etc are all really well. Don’t know what the Be tweeter might have brought but I certainly don’t feel the need to try: happy as they are. Although it was a long time ago the speakers remind me of the Magnepan that had similar qualities (Magnepan 1.5 also painted a big transparant picture also not having pin point imaging but of course lacking the deeper bass (and depth) as these faitals do have. Bass was quick though, like also with these faitals).
All in all and compared to previous (good quality!) standmounts these faitals give a much more credible impression of various types of especially live recorded music (including the energy) and I am very happy with them.
Note on the photos that the ‘stands’ still need some consideration and work. I have now placed them on (slightly sloped) iso acoustics stands intended for stand mounts (and specified for a maximum weight far less than the faitals are).
