Hello Mr Gravesen,
Last November I finally finished the crossover that you designed for the
JBL L26 3-Way. It took me just shy of 3 years to finally get the
job done but at last I did!!!!!!
I cannot tell you how happy I am with the final product. Now my
speakers sound FANTASTIC. I love them.
I started off with a pair of L36 speakers, so I didn't have to fabricate
a cabinet, I am not that handy. I also left the cabinet ported.
When I first go the L36's I did not ever turn them up loud because they
were so forward and aggressive, they were unpleasant on so many levels.
After I got your crossovers installed the speakers sounded so good I
finally stretched their feet out. I cranked the music a bit!!
Everything sounded very good. That is until I drover a voice coil
rub into one of the woofers. The previous owner had refoamed the
woofers and did not do a good job. I found a man in my home town
that happened to know incredible amounts of information about JBL
drivers. He told me to bring them in for an inspection. When
he looked at them he said that the foams weren't correct for that
driver. It was much too stiff and did not have the appropriate
roll on it. He suggested a recone on both woofers. I aggreed.
His turnaround time was fast and within a week I had the drivers back in
for another listen. What a difference. I was astonished at
how much better the woofers performed. Astonished. After a
few weeks of break in and listening I may like these speakers as well as
any I've owned.
I thank you for your hard work with developing these crossovers.
What a pleasure you have brought to my L36's
I wish you a fine rest of your weekend,
Dan Trefz
