Hello dear Mr Gravesen,
First I would like to thank you for the great work you do in designing
speakers!
I am really loving my Revelator-51's. They sound detailed, quite some
soundstage very natural and for the size of the cabinet the lows are not
too bad. No earthquake shaking powers or very deep bass tones but nice
and tight lows.
Some years back I found your website and was curious to try and build a
DIY-speaker. This idea then was put on hold and during 2024 I came back
to your website and saw even more designs and also more "first-timer
friendly" designs, at least in my opinion.
I have some basic woodworking skills and machines so I looked for an
easy, small and not too expensive design to start with. It became the
Revelator-51, as you can guess by now ;-)
The only change I made to your design was due to some other wood
combination (I used oak for the front panel and black MDF for the rest,
to match the furniture) and the thickness of wood available to me.
They turned out okay, some details are not perfect, but hey, I made them
myself!
After some burning-in they sound wonderful. I thought the treble was a
bit muffled but after a change in DAC the speaker really came to live!
Concluding this message, this "test" has been very successful and I am
now thinking about the next speaker. But I am not quite ready to choose
between a subwoofer (your 12" design) to add to these Revelator-51's òr
building myself a pair of Ellipticor 2F8 òr even the Ellipticor 3...
Kind regards,
Roel.
