Hello Troels,
I hope you are doing well. I would like to share a few pictures from the
construction with my feedback:
Based on my experience with the building of the Discovery 861 and also
because of the more complicated design of the Revelator 851 I decided to
use 28mm MDF instead of Baltic birch board. I use a quite poor hand saw
where the setting of angle is indicative only. The MDF is more friendly
material for me, in case of a little mistake (which I did of course) you
can use sealant and a sand paper for a correction. Another factor, the
price of 28 mm MDF is ca. 40% of 21 mm Baltic birch. The building took
more time than I expected when I wanted to maintain required level of
accuracy and my poor hand tools were the limiting factor, but I don't
regret it in the end.
I must mention an upgrade of my previous amp Prima Luna EVO200 to amp
LM805ia – 48 wpc single ended triode, this changed the game completely.
My LM805ia is tuned with a copper foil capacitors Audyn, with 805 tubes
ACME series, and all remaining tubes are high grade of quality.
The sound is simply extraordinary - very open, airy with a lot of
details. Vocals and instruments are very natural and very realistic,
their localisation in space is clear and defined, simply the whole
soundstage is very holographic, not artificially wide.
The Revelator 851 is a very exclusive stuff, delivers fidelity in the
true sense of the word, I enjoy music like never before !
With regard to my impressions from the last Audio Show from Prag I can
declare that the Revelator 851 can beat any high-end regardless of
price.
Troels, thank you very very much for your design.
Kind regards
Tomas, Slovakia
