Dear Troels,
I hope this email finds you well.
I simply wanted to send you a small token of appreciation for your work and for the inspiration you have given to so many DIY audio enthusiasts over the years like myself.
A few years ago, my wife and I bought a 77-inch TV to enjoy Netflix series and films. The next challenge was finding a suitable piece of furniture for such a large screen. After looking around, I simply couldn't justify the eye-watering prices of designer TV cabinets, so I came up with a temporary solution.
I went to a local marble workshop and asked them to cut a slab of Carrara marble measuring 170 × 50 cm. I placed two steel bars underneath it and rested the whole thing on two large stones from the garden. Et voilà… a bespoke TV stand!
The idea was always to replace it with a proper metal frame, making the structure taller, stronger and, hopefully, more elegant. But, as we all know, temporary solutions have a habit of becoming permanent...
Then one day I came across your ScanSpeak Soundbar design, and it immediately sparked an idea. I ordered all the components from Jantzen, which arrived at the end of March 2024. Unfortunately, work and other commitments meant the boxe remained unopened for more than two years...
Fast forward to this summer. My wife and I decided to spend the season at home, and I finally managed to dedicate some time to the project. I started building a TV cabinet integrating your design adapted to fit the measures of the marble top I already had.
I had to work fairly quickly because this year’s crazy weather here causes the plywood sheets to warp not long after they are cut. Fortunately, the wooden structure is now complete, which means I can slow down a little and begin working on the crossover.
There is still a great deal to do: sanding, installing the damping material, painting the cabinet and building a steel support frame for the structure. I suspect the project will keep me busy well into next autumn.
In the picture you can see the structure belly-up, the crossover will be placed outside the speaker boxes, and there is plenty of space for some cable management... everything will be driven by a WiiM amp pro.
I just wanted to thank you for sharing your knowledge so generously. Without your website, this project would have never existed.
When my ScanSpeak Soundbar Evolution is finally finished, I would be delighted to send you some photographs. If you think they might be of interest.
Thank you once again for everything you do.
All the best,
Federico
