Looking at the ScanSpeak website we see a wide range of small
faceplate tweeters either being updated or discontinued, but also a new
addition, the D3004/602200.

|
I was curious about the D3004/602200 being in many ways similar to the
my beloved D3004/660000, but with a small faceplate and maybe useful in
places where space is an issue - or if I want a tweeter very close to a
midrange driver, who knows what the future may bring.
ScanSpeak was kindly offering me a pair for test and review. Below my
measurements - sonic evaluation will have to wait for some future
construction.

D3004/602200

Despite a rugged rear chamber, the
D3004/602200 is very light, only 130 grams.

Tweeter setup for measurements. Baffle is 80
x 120 cm.
Tweeter carefully flush mounted as should be for measurements!

The dome itself may look like a D3004/660000
dome, but it isn't.
Left the 6600 dome, right the 6022 dome. Different fabric is used for
the domes, the 6022 has double weft - or warp - threads depending on
orientation. Seen before, but I have forgotten where.

At first sight, the ScanSpeak FR looks
a bit dubious.
Rather uneven frequency response around 6-7 kHz, so I was anxious to make my own readings.

The frequency response of the two units I
received.
Quite a matched pair- and no wobbly response around 6-7 kHz, rather a very
smooth response all the way to around 30-40 kHz.

Here the response of the two units shown from
500 - 20000 Hz. What's not to like.

Impedance of the two units.
These tweeters really do have a very low point of resonance! Here ~420
Hz.

Horizontal dispersion at 0, 10, 20, 30 and 40
deg. off-axis.

Distortion at a level equivalent to ~84 dB @
1 meter.
Green = 2nd harm., orange = 3rd harm.
Distortion
at a level equivalent to ~90 dB @ 1 meter.
Green = 2nd harm., orange = 3rd harm.
Distortion
at a level equivalent to ~96 dB @ 1 meter.
Green = 2nd harm., orange = 3rd harm.
Overall, this tweeter seems more than suitable to below 2 kHz - and as
always, depending on slopes used.

R3004/602200 has been added just after this page going
